Green Transit?
(August 25, 2010) Alex and Ryan, two friends of the
Alano who a
re
shown in the accompanying photo, in fact are not working on a new form
of fossel fuel-free transportation. Ryan was given a free couch, and
Alex is helping him move it down Broadview Avenue, all the way home. But
that floral cushion looks way more comfortable than any seat on the 504
or 505 Streetcars that we normally use in this part of town - wonder if
Alex and Ryan give transfers?
Alano BBQ August 28
(August 17, 2010) On Saturday, August 28, the Alano Broadview Club will host a community BBQ from 3 - 6 pm. The festivities will actually take place a few doors down the street from the Alano, in the backyard of 682 Broadview (an Alano Broadview project residence). But the Alano Club itself will be open for business as usual Saturday afternoon. If you at the BBQ and you have never been inside the Alano before, pop up to 740 Broadview for a tour of the club. More info; phone (647) 346-0733 or email info@alanobroadview.ca.

The workshop has yet to be scheduled, but should take place early in the Autumn. Attendence is limited, and the response is expected to be keen. Put your name on the workshop pre-registration list by emailing contact details to info@alanobroadview.ca

This new space, called the Listening Post, is a project run by a local inter-church group. Anyone who happens to be in the Alano area is welcome to drop by for some quiet prayer and meditation time, or to talk with one of the specially trained Listening Post staff members. The Listening Post is open to everyone, but naturally will be of special interest to Big Book followers in need of a getaway place where they can work Step 11.
New 'Healing Circle' Meeting
(Mar. 2. 10, 2010) Native activist and
environmentalist Danny Beaton (pictured below right) is hosting a new weekly
recovery meeting. It is entitled Healing Circle, and it takes place each Thursday at noon on the
3rd floor of the Alano Club. The th
eme
of the meeting is native approaches to spirituality, and those of use
who have had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Beaton know he can
draw on a lifetime of first nations learning in this area. At each
Healing Circle gathering, he will be using various techniques
and ceremonies aimed at healing those of us who have suffered from
-- or are still suffering from -- alcohol or drug addiction. The first
Healing Circle took place last Thursday
(Feb. 25), and everyone who was there agree that something very special
took place during the hour-long gathering. The Healing Circle is a
departure from typical 12 Step meetings, and it is certain to grow very
popular in the months to come. Whether you too are in
the 12 Step fellowship, or are simply drawn to this event out of
curiosity, please feel free to join us.
